The key issues that will be addressed during the project are:
- To produce a comprehensive set of scenarios in which the reconfigurability of user terminals and access points will improve the user perception of the offered nomadic services.
- To translate the user requirements in described scenarios to technical physical layer specifications, based on a Canonical Parametric Description.
- To investigate efficient approaches for a canonical parametric description
- To map the canonical parametric description to a generalized multicarrier representation (GMCR) which leads to a transceiver for single-mode operation and to investigate the resulting transceiver structure for a selected target groups of air interfaces
- To define a generalized outer modem to complement the GMCR representation of the inner modem
- To find functional mappings, derive suitable architectures and analyse the performance
- To extend the GMCR to multi-mode operation and user-defined mode operation
- To specify adaptive and reconfigurable algorithms and analyse their complexity
- To quantify coverage and throughput gains from PHY-MAC interfaces in multi-mode operation
- To develop a validation platform that will be used to validate the basic concept of a parametric baseband processor based on the GMC concept in conjunction with a flexible outer modem-processing unit including an adaptable channel coding unit.
